At two months your baby is starting to show the first hints of a day rhythm — slightly longer wake windows, a longer night stretch beginning to appear, and more social awake time. Sleep is still spread across 4–5 naps and a fragmented night, totalling 14–17 hours. Bedtime routine
A predictable bedtime routine cues your baby that sleep is coming and makes settling easier. At this age, aim for a calm 20–30 minute wind-down in the same order every night. A simple sequence:
- Bath or wash — warm water lowers body temperature, a natural sleep signal.
- Feed — milk in a dim, quiet room; burp well before lying down.
- Book or song — two short books or one familiar lullaby.
- Swaddle or sleeping bag — a clear "sleep time" cue.
- Into the crib drowsy but awake — the single most important sleep-shaping habit at every age.

Common sleep challenges at this age
- Short naps. Many 2-month-olds nap in 30–45 minute cycles linked to their sleep architecture. If your baby wakes after one cycle but seems rested, it may simply be age-appropriate. Lengthening naps usually comes later, around 4–6 months.
- Witching hour. Late afternoon and early evening often bring a fussy, hard-to-settle period. Cluster feeding, lots of holding, and accepting a short evening catnap are all normal responses — this eases as wake windows extend.
- Distinguishing day and night. If your baby still has day/night confusion, maximise daylight exposure during the day and keep nights dim, quiet, and interactions low-key. A morning walk outside is one of the strongest circadian cues.
