3 Month Old Sleep Schedule
At three months your baby is past the newborn fog: day and night are starting to separate, and naps consolidate into three or four predictable windows. Wake windows run 75–105 minutes, total sleep is 14–17 hours, and the 4-month sleep regression is usually the next landmark on the horizon.
Sleep schedule · data from paediatric sleep guidelinesWake windows, naps and total sleep
At this age your baby can comfortably stay awake for 1h 15m–1h 40m between sleeps. Most 3 month babies take 3–4 naps a day and sleep 14–17 hours (day naps + night sleep). Use the wake window — not the clock — as your main signal for when the next sleep is due.

Bedtime routine
A predictable bedtime routine cues your baby that sleep is coming and makes settling easier. At this age, aim for a calm 20–30 minute wind-down in the same order every night. A simple sequence:
- Bath or wash — warm water lowers body temperature, a natural sleep signal.
- Feed — milk in a dim, quiet room; burp well before lying down.
- Book or song — two short books or one familiar lullaby.
- Swaddle or sleeping bag — a clear "sleep time" cue.
- Into the crib calm — use a settling approach that is safe and workable for your family.

Common sleep challenges at this age
- Short naps. Thirty-to-forty-five-minute naps are developmentally normal at this age. Keep offering the next nap rather than pushing longer wake windows to force longer naps.
- Sleep cues. At 3 months, drowsy signs are subtle and late. Watch the clock as much as the cues — most 3-month-olds need sleep within 90–105 minutes of waking.
- The 4-month regression. Sleep architecture changes permanently around 4 months. If sleep falls apart at the end of this month, it is a normal transition, not a setback you caused.
Frequently asked questions
What is the wake window for a 3-month-old?
About 75–105 minutes. Most 3-month-olds need a nap within 1.5–2 hours of waking, and bedtime works best roughly 90 minutes after the last nap ends.
How many naps at 3 months?
Three to four: two solid naps plus one or two short catnaps. Total daytime sleep is usually 4–6 hours, with 11–12 hours overnight (including feeds).
What time should a 3-month-old go to bed?
Most settle well with a 7:00–8:00 PM bedtime. An early bedtime protects the longest sleep stretch, which typically starts a few hours after going down.
